The Fantastic Miss Clara

Happy Thanksgiving! I haven't blogged about food in a while, but I think I must for tonight's feast.

Who thinks Clara looks a bit like the Fantastic Mr. Fox? Just a little? :)

I loved this movie so much! The animation was even more wonderful than I had expected. And the voice cast was awesome- Danyele and I, being the Potter-nerds that we are, both recognized Dumbledore's voice immediately!

reasons to be pretty

Notice the no caps. So much self-restraint there. Despite my proof-reading deficiencies, I am a capitalization nerd. :)

reasons to be pretty is a play by Neil LaBute, which was just on Broadway and is now playing at the GableStage theatre in Coral Gables. The productions there are always super professional and impressive, and this one was really great. The play itself was really interesting because the characters can be interpreted so many ways. The actors did really well, especially the actress who played Stephanie. I think that the GableStage performances are always worth seeing, and everyone does a great job there...including a certain staff member at MAC! :)

Here's a Nyt review of the Broadway production.

New keyboard

My new keyboard is amazing! I will blog more about it and the whole new music room later, but I just wanted to post this wonderful picture. It looks so high tech! Ah, music nerd.

The coolest thing about the keyboard that I've been able to figure out as of yet is the ability to record with voice and one of the million instrumentals right onto the keyboard and transpose it with a push of a button, and then being able to transfer it to the computer with a little memory drive. I know it's a cliche, but it's so easy and fun to make music with this thing!

Sari's Top 5 favorite songs

SO CUTE!!!

1. Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop
2. Seasons of Love from RENT
3. Part Of Your World from The Little Mermaid
4. Un-birthday Song from Alice in Wonderland
5. Camelot from.....uh, Camelot? :)

Brain twin sleepover

We do not have nearly enough pictures of Danyele and Melissa and I so I had to post a picture with all these other invaders who happen to also be people I love extremely much. :)

Last Saturday Melissa stayed over and we had such an awesome time! We watched Rent and Chess and the Frenchwoods production of 13 and cast the FLCT version of Rent and picked Broadway bootlegs to beg for from some internet musical theatre woman. :0) So much fun and I miss my brain twin already!

In addition to being crazily similar in so many ways, Melissa has introduced me to a ton of music and other wonderfulness. I need to do a post later about all the new music I have from her!

While I'm not blaming Melissa for making me steal pirated music off the internet, I am now addicted to this website for converting YouTube videos into mp3s and videos for my iPod. :)

Michael Arden (who I am now friends with on Facebook :D) is yet another amazing singer introduced to me by Melissa. I bet she's already seen this with her Broadway YouTube stalking skills, but this video made me so happy! It's not really a video as much as a black screen with music, but the song is still wonderful. :) PIPPIN! It makes me miss it so much.

Eating Animals

An interesting article about a book that seems even more interesting. From the ever-obnoxious New Yorker. :)

Danyele has been procrastinating about her Mark O'Connor guest post, but I will force it out of her soon!

Why Mosquitoes Buzz

Pippin just ended but I'm already doing another show with FLCT and I'm really excited. It's not part of their 09-10 season, and even though the performances are more of an outreach it's still awesome because we get to perform at the Broward Center. The show is called Why Mosquitoes Buzz and Danyele of course plays the annoying mosquito...how appropriate. :) I'm the nervous rabbit. We actually did this same show with FLCT 4 years ago with a different cast and different roles, so it's interesting to be rehearsing it again with all of the changes. The show was adapted from the African folktale by a little children's theatre in Lexington, and it's actually really cute. We're doing 10 school shows and there's a lot of audience interaction so that should be fun.

Laura Marling

Our amazing "Leading Player" from Pippin, carpool friend, and brain-sister Melissa introduced me to Laura Marling. Not surprisingly, her musical tastes, like her everything else, are exactly the same as mine. :) So of course I love Laura Marling and she's my new favorite singer. She's a 17 year old from England and her music is beautiful. Here's a link to her YouTube channel. "New Romantic" is the best, but the video is a little weird so just listen to the music. The video for "Cross Your Fingers" is really awesome though.

Jamba Evil

Danyele's been even more insanely health-conscious than usual these days, and she's found a new love; Jamba Juice. But of course, before trying anything from their menu, she did some obsessive website-stalking to try to figure out if they are really, truly all natural. And what she found was juicer than the juciest smoothie they offer. While Jamba Jucie claims that "we do not add any processed sugars or artificial sweeteners", if you click through about 100 pages of their website to find the ingredients of the ingredients in "Jamba Light" they do in fact use Splenda in some of their drinks. Danyele, being the foxy child that she is, emailed the Jamba to tell them about this. They should have written back to her something more honest like- "We use natural ingredients in all drinks other than our "Jamba Light" option, and it is the consumer's job to assume that we may be using a small amount of artificial sweetener for those few drinks marked as such on our menu."

But no. Instead, they came up with this random nonsense about how Splenda really is natural. Quote from email response to Danyele: "After much evaluation, Jamba Juice believes that Splenda is a product that has proven itself against a significant amount of scientific scrutiny, even endorsed by the American Council of Science and Health and American Dietetic Association. Based on research, it appears to be widely accepted by consumers with a distinct positive halo that separates it from its competition and is viewed as a product "made from sugar". Finally, we believe Splenda meets our criteria of not being a chemical additive, but a product derived from a natural source."

Danyele wrote back an awesome response, and hopefully, soon they will be using Truvia in their "light" drinks instead!
